Australia Decimal circulating coinage (1966-present)
(coins proudly pulled from circulation)*
Special thanks to coincommunity forum for video link: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16192
In 1966, the Australian Government decided to replace the old British LSD system with the new decimal system. The video above explains the simplicity of the decimal system. Yes, the LSD is an extremely dumb system - well illustrated in the video. History of why the Australian Government decided to replace the system can be read in more details from these sites:

The following coins are pulled strictly from circulation only. 1 and 2 cents were removed from circulation from the start of 1990. Some coins can only be found in mintsets. The rest of the collection can be seen here: http://www.omnicoin.com/user_view.aspx?id=gxseries
*Bought the 1966 silver coin as it no longer circulates although I heard the last time my friend getting one in change was back in 2000! The 50 cents coin was removed from circulation due the rising prices of silver and a significant amount of them were recalled.

Note 1: While the mintage of 1983 and 1984 20 cents are removed to be in millions, apparently only 1000 of each remained due to low demand from the Reserve Bank. Hence, they are relatively difficult to find circulation.
Note 2: A majority variety was created in 2004 which is known as big head and small head variety. The original intention of the change is supposedly to automate the die cutting process of the small head Queen which was found to be unsatisfactory, and was reverted back to the old means. An estimated of 40,000 big head exist.

Note 1: There is an unclear indication of the mintage of the 1992 dollar coin. While the RAM declared that only 8,000 coins were struck for circulation, there seems to be no other reference that the RAM did strike any Mobs of Roos for this year.
